Florida Vert Series- Merritt Island
Florida Vert Series just kicked off in Merritt Island. The two-part vert contest hosted a diverse crew from all over the south. A few like myself, drove 14 hours from the north and west. FVS was run by skaters for skaters. Although the ramp has been there since 1999, this was the first contest held there. It was a great mix of youth and experienced skaters. Results for each division are here.
“It was a backyard jam/contest in the backyard of a skate park. The owner pretty much granted us access to do what we wanted and we did it the way we wanted. We are very grateful. So much ripping went down and riders came from all over. We had an 8 year old (Nash Barfield) and a 58 yr old (Mark Lake.) I think that is the widest age range in the history of a skateboarding contest. We also had ten 50 yr old (and up) riders in the Grand-masters Division. I think that is also a first in the history of vert skateboarding on a halfpipe. We made history and we hope to continue the energy and enthusiasm to Ramp 48 for stop #2 on May 28th” -Adam Effertz AKA Scizzors
